Hey everyone, i took the cap off the radiator this afternoon with the engine running, and when i gave it a bit of a rev coolant came flying out the top. Surely this isn't normal. Could it mean i have an airlock or something?

Ah okay. Its just that it had been sitting for the whole day and i didn't think the thermostat would open up as soon as i started it being cold. Then the coolant flew two feet in the air which caught me by surprise lol. Could the thermostat be stuck open? because this happened the second it started and the temp gauge barely ever makes it to a quarter no matter how far, slow, fast you drive.

yeah good chance it's stuck open or has been removed, be worth having a look.

Yeah, as long as it isn't stuck closed haha. That would make things even worse. New thermostats aren't to expensive anyway so i suppose it isnt the worst thing to happen haha. Thanks for your help

If you fit a new t'stat, make sure it has the little washer looking thing at the bottom, and drill a small hole in it to stop "heat shock" at the radiator ( see pic )....and use a new rubber seal, and NO sealant/glue is required, but must it be bone, motherless dry....and make sure the mating surfaces are flat....that means breaking out the file and filing them flat.

Thanks cjh. I think i am going to fit a new one, even if the old one is ok. Its never been changed so i guess a new one couldn't hurt. Never thought of drilling a small hole... thanks again cjh
