im going to be converting my eb over to manual in the coming weeks, but i think i may have a slight problem with the ecu. as my eb s has dumblock

current ecu is the the standard unit for the btr 4 spd.
ecu i'd like to use is out of my eb ghia wreck (1dac) which is pre smartlock.
i no longer have the looms out of said wreck as i sold them way before i got another eb.

is it likeley going to start and run with a pre smartlock ecu fitted?
if not what will i need to do to make it do so?

not interested using a j3 either.
as a bbm is not on the mods list either, nor is a el ecu..

Just FYI, you don't *have* to convert to BBM nor run an EL ECU when running a J3. Pre-EL ECUs have a J3 port. You can also remap an EL ECU to suit the log manifold.

Just clearing up some facts for other readers.

The pre-Smartlock ECU should work fine, worst case scenario you may have to bridge the starter pins on the BEM.

Cheers,
Jason

i am fully aware of those facts.
atm i think it isnt worth the hassle as mine will eventually be converted to a v8. and i mostly run on lpg anyways.

ah ok.. i might just bridge them anyways when the dash is out

I dont think it'll run mate, because the BEM will be looking for the correct signal from the ECU.

well a threadmine of sorts..

fitted the 1DAC into the eb as it sat being auto with no other mods etc..
starts and runs on petrol and lpg with a PRE smartlock ecu. in a car that DOES have smartlock

then took it for a spin. the auto picks up gear, its just in lhm as you'd all expect.
so i fitted the pedal box to start on the conversion and inspected my blue bem to find no modification at all.

so it has me a little stumped atm..

what part has you stumped??

a smartlock ecu needs the signal from the bem to disable ecu imobilisation, a non smartlock ecu dont need a signal to start, the bem just sends the signal, the ecu doesnt communicate with the bem otherthan receiving the enable signal..

if the bem gets the signal from the ignition the bem will enable engine cranking, then the signal is sent to the ecu, but the bem dont care if there is an ecu or not it just send the signal...

from what i'd been told elsewhere it simply wouldn't start.. obviously they were talking rubbish or got their info crossed.

ah ok. i understand the setup now. your explanation is the clear answer i was looking for ages back. but oh well it means its something i can just fit and leave in there. and not wonder

Fit a Smartlock ECU to a non Smartlock car and you have issues.

Fit Non Smartlock ECU to a Smartlock car and it works.
