Gday all,

Need to know what size bolt I need to mount the 5 litre V8 to an engine stand. I will be mounting it to the rear of the engine so what was the size of the bolt that attached the tranny bellhousing to the engine and what length?

Sorry for the obscure Q - should be working on the mini and not this

7/16" UNC. length depends on the thickness of the engine stand bolt bosses.

Thank you xr9 you are a saint. I usually don't bolt through the bosses on the stand as it tends to overbalance and tip either left or right. I just bolt through the plate to the engine to keep it back towards the upright. I have done mini engines easily on this stand with a weight of 160kg which includes the gearbox but his is my first Windsor pull down so will be trial and error.

Many thanks for your input!!!

No wuckers.
That's why I say it depends on the bolt bosses on the engine stand. Many have adjustable arms with bosses on the end about 50mm long. adjusting the arms means you can adjust the centre of balance of the engine too. I think 5.0 Head bolts can often be used.
Here's what one of my stands looks like....
