Just a quick question - will an AU Fairmont Ghia "T" shifter be an easy replacement for the original part on an EFII - or are there modifications that need to be done for this swap to work?

No, it is not a straight swap, they mount differently onto the shifter stem. They are different in their operation. The EF/EL shifter presses the release shaft down, and the AU shifter lifts the release shaft up. This means they are not a direct swap. I have heard of people gutting the AU shifter and fitting the EF internals.
