Have you checked the ignition coils? Had one out on my BA when i got it, real rough on light accellaration, new set of coils and was fixed, cant remember what it cost to have done but wouldnt think it would be 2 hard to fix urself though if u do a bit on ur car anyway

EL has a Dizzy and one coil, they do not run coil on plug.

It could be Dizzy or coil. Have you been loosing any water? Does it blow vapour on start up?

Check distributor and coil as mentioned. Find yourself a spare coil from somewhere and swap it over. That should rule it out if it runs just as crap.

Also check your injectors are working fine. Stick a screwdriver on the injector and use it as an endoscope and listen for ticking. If one is ticking oddly that might be your problem.

Another area to check is your fuel filter. A blocked fuel filter won't allow enough fuel to get to the injectors and thus poor fuel delivery.

Lastly, vacuum leak. Check for any vacuum leaks...a vacuum leak can cause rough idling and higher fuel consumption.

Check the above and see how you go.

BTW, get yourself an aerosol can of some sort...something like "Start ya bastard" that sprays a good mist of flammable chemicals and spray it at the intake area, if the RPM picks up, you have a vacuum leak some where...could just be as simple as the intake gasket.

Check your fuel pressure as well if all else fails, but does seem to sound like a spark issue...
