Hey, I fail to understand how the EGR Valve on a 5.0 Litre windsor works. Because my understanding of EGR is that it recirculates exhaust back in to the intake. There is no attachment from the EGR Valve back to eithier exhaust manifold, so I don't understand. Can someone please explain? Also, I have now fitted an explorer manifold, however I still have the EGR and the spacer mounted to the manifold. Is it doing anything? or has it been rendered useless? Is the EGR solenoid that's behind the windscreen washer bottle still supposed to be plugged in?
Cheers, Gab |

i took a mates windsor appart and found on the heads there is a exhaust port on the intake side in the middle of the head. its only small but i think some of the gasses go from there back into the manifold. and then the valve on the EGR opens to let it into the intake system.
stupid idea and ford should be shot for it |

It's not a stupid idea, it's a means to an end. It's logical they would use that method when the heads already had the heat passage from Carbed models.
Explorers had external EGR(like F-series) where it came from pipes plumbed into the exhaust manifolds so the EGR valve won't be doing anything on your E-series. Leave the EVR etc plugged in or use a chip or 1/4 horse to switch it off in the EEC then you can remove all that stuff. |

But my manifold's actually off an aussie AU Falcon, not an explorer, did they not use EGR? or did they have pipes plumbed to the exhaust manifolds too? Gab |

Nope EGR finished with E-series.
