Did he fit a sender or a switch?

Relief valve in the oil pump might be jammed closed if it really has too high of oil pressure.
Cheers ToranaGuy

i'd say the mechanic f**k up. OR a dodgy earth etc can cause the same thing

Quite often it's the sender playing up. Does it go straight into the red when the ignition is on? That is often an indicator of a sender failure.
As mentioned before the mechanic may have incorrectly fitted the gli oil pressure switch as opposed to the correct sender. The switch is much shorter than the sender which has a round plastic body about 2" in size. It may also be an issue with the sender wire not making proper contact or being loose. If all these are correct I'd advise having your oil pressure checked via a mechanical gauge to verify if you actually have an oil pressure problem.

It was the switch he replaced. He did put it on a mechanical gauge and said it was sitting on 55 on idle and going as high as 65. He changed oil and filter and said to see how it goes but soon as I got up to 100 km it went straight into the red again. when I pulled over I noticed oil leaking I checked to see if it was coming from the switch but it wasn't so I took it straight back. So frustrating!!

If oil is leaking from the sender then he has broken it.

At 55psi you have 4bar of pressure, at 65psi you have 4.6 bar. Pressure is fine. 7 Bar = around 100psi. Replace the sender and shoot your mechanic.
