It's not really nessacary, it was just for the EF, leave it unplugged, as for the oil pressure gauge, make sure you are using an EB oil pressure sensor, the EF ones I beleve are different and will be telling the gauge some tall stories.

With the oil pressure thing, make sure the wire hasnt come off the sender, My XG did the same. As soon as you turned the key to accessories it shot straight up past seven and stopped their. Got underneath, plugged the wire thing back on and now it works again.

The EF oil pressure sender is the round looking type about 2" long with a plastic body. From memory the EA/D type are longer hexagonal looking metal bodied thing. And yes, the EF type will give incorrect readings in an EB and vice versa.

did you fit a oil pressure switch or a oil pressure sender??

2 different things..
pressure switch is for models with the oil light only.( smallish in size)
pressure sender is for models with the oil pressure gauge..( rather bulbus and large in size)

thats how it should be, when you have the pins linked in the diagnostic port it puts the ecu in diagnostic mode, this locks the timing into the base setting which in your case is the ign mark..
remove the pins from the diag port and the ecu then controls the timing..
