I need to update my AU1 radio in order to make it Blue Tooth compatible. Can someone please help out with a recommendation? I want to retain my steering wheel controls - volume & seek - if possible. I was looking at a cheap Alpine unit but I lose the steering wheel controls with them.
(I did the homework on the searches but no joy.)

Alpine should let you keep the steering wheel controls.
You need an adaptor to do it. We put an alpine in the missus AU3 Ghia and kept the steering wheel controls.

Thank you - looks like I need to find a more knowledgable supplier.

Take a look at some of the Clarion 2 din units, I know there are a few in their 2012 lineup that are OEM steering wheel remote ready. Not too sure on the prices of these though.

Hi,
I use factory FG controls in me ED fitted with the FG wheel... I use this to integrate with my Sony head unit (not this exactly, but the old model)... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PAC-SWI-RC-S ... 589999e770 Just import one from the states, that's where they're made... Pick a head unit with steering wheel control input and this module interfaces any buttons to the headunit... Go to their website and it'll tell you which headunits support which functions, but they will all support track forward, vol up and vol down for your AU... You use the white wire for your imput from memory and don't cut the loops (at least not with the old model)... Took me some working out as their instal guides only suit US vehicles but I can find the original emails I sent asking for help if you need them... Cheers, Tim
