hello, ive just recently brough a 1998 xh v8 ute.
The auto trans has full stage 2 shift kit, shortend shift springs, billet servo and a 1800rpm stall converter. the 8 is stock.
i was just wondering what would be the best to get the 8 pumping a bit better to use the trans to its full potential its aparently ment to stand 500hp  but im not really interested in pumping out that much.... yet.
i was thinking maybe a cam (dunno what good cams are out there tho) with a bit of chunk in the idol :D and maybe something to do with the intake just for now. already sorted out extractors and exhaust.

1800 rpm convertor is less than stock. You mean 2800?

Explorer intake, 65mm throttlebody, underdrive pullies, extractors, twin 2 and 1/4 exhaust is a good start. And a tune.

If you want to go further alloy heads and cam.

Oops yeah I meant 2800 sorry. Cheers for the reply. That sounds good for a start. What about ignition? I heard their dizzy and coil doesn't really pack that much punch? What type of cam would you recommend that would have a little chunk??

Nope, in fact the original ignition is in fact one of the best stock ignitions ever.
I know I tested many. A Crane Hi-6 is a good addition though.
Have a look at the sticky at the top of the page about increasing performance of the 5.0 engine.

Stock ignition is pretty good stuff. The Explorer intake was used on the 185kw EL XR8's and on all AU V8's. Try Ebay, they pop up on there from time to time or try a wreckers maybe.

Is the trickflow intake manifold just as good as the explorer? Would it suit gt40p heads??

I think the Explorer is better.

I too would stick to the explorer.

After reading comparisons between the intakes, the TFS intake doesn't seem to be an "upgrade".

Plus it's a mighty PITA to put on. Explorer looks tidier and much easier to install.
