Know one has said GTX3582r yet? I thought that would be the obvious choice. Good for over 400rwkw on pump fuel. You say you were looking at a GT42r? This turbo is capable of over 650rwkw, How much head room are you looking for exactly?

I'm basically trying to get as close to 300rwkW with boost and boost alone. As for headroom I don't want the turbo to be at under 70% efficiency when I'm at said boost level.
I also want to be able to dial it back to around 8-12 psi and still have some decent efficiency as some turbo's aren't even in their second efficiency island until at least 12psi boost. With the GT 30 series turbo's (35, 37 in particular) they all have T3 flanges. The general consensus for a V8 is T3 for twin turbo and T4 for single ortherwise back pressure tends to become an issue. If this holds true I'm up for nearly a grand for a new rear housing. I could get at least 3 turbonetics rear housings for the same price. The 35X82R comes without a rear housing so by the time you have a complete unit that's 3 grand. I'd be expecting block splitting torque from idle to 7000rpm+ if I was going to spend that much on a turbo. Has anyone run a regular GT 3582R on a stock 302 and what was the boost threshold like? |

What about the GT3788?
Its the smallest of the GT turbos with a T4 flange and sits between the 3582 and 4088. The compressor map looks reasonable too. http://www.himni-racing.com/images/GT3788R_comp_e.jpg Pretty much perfect for what I'm after. Just wonder what the boost threshold on a 5.0 would be like. |

Well a decision has been made. GT3582R with a 1.06 A/R
I popped in to see freddy this arvo in regards to a turbonetics T66. Since they only make them with HP compressor wheels these days all of the compressor maps on their website are out of date. He doesn't like the HP wheels on a street car cause they are designed for pressures above 30psi. I asked him for his thoughts and availability on a 3582R and he smiled and pulled one out of a box. He then adressed any concerns I had with the T3 housing by pointing me to a few big hp xr6t's that flow alot more than my 4-500hp target. Price is $1800 and I'm looking to pick it up either tomorrow or monday. All I can say is man its a compact unit for what it can flow. A perfect fit for the limited space in the fordrunner engine bay. Also in keeping with the compact size theme he said he'd do me a deal on a turbosmart 40mm comp gate. Is 40mm decent or should I be looking at stepping up to a 50mm gate? |

Good choice. That gate should be fine with the power levels your looking at. If the 50mm isnt much more $$ just get it anyway for when the future power bug bites
