Hey guys, I beleive that my starter motor in my AU has failed has it doesn't seem to engage just clicks clunky sounding clicks. I beleive it's the starter has the battery has full power and I can push start the car.
My question is I know that EA to AU are interchangeable just the EA and EB 3.9 are huge monsters and the ED to AU are the same smaller size. But will a starter out of a BA or BF or possibly a FG starter be able to be retrofitted. I am only asking about the "newer" models as I think it would be a quicker find in my area then finding a lower km starter.

B series starter motor will fit with no issues, and they are smaller.

The aftermarket stuff all supersedes to the FG starter, Same starter from EA to FG.
I've also seen people do a little grinding and fit them to clevos. |

Great looks like I will be finding a BA model starter motor over the next few days I just hope my ring gear on the flywheel isn't shot.
As this all started the other day I drove to work and the car was making a funny "whizzing" noise (but stopped once the clutch was engageed) I pulled over and checked under the bonnet and didn't see anything out of the ordinary or etc I assumed it was the alternator dying. went to drive home and the car wouldn't start, it will started from a push start (and will ran normal no strange noises) drove it home no strange noise. Got home and car once again clicked etc. NOW would I be right to assume that the starter motor engaged when I started it prior to going to work and got stuck "in" connected with the ring gear and the "whizzing" noise was the starter motor getting forced to turn and thus burning out the bushing or solinoid?

Hook it up to a battery using a set of jumper leads, find where the postive and neg points on the starter motor are and see if it still works

BXF456 is the Bosch part number that fits 1960-2008 falcons.
FG is a different part number, but may still fit.
