i fitted 1 in my fairlane looked pretty good once fitted end up with a small pocket below unit, if your careful like i was the surround for the unit covers up almost all of the cut out, theres heaps of room behind the original headunit for a double din so dont stress about that... just give it a go, the surrounds arent worth bugger all if ya mess it up

Did EXACTLY that :)

the dvd player covers up the slice due to it had to slide in on a angle so i had to cut kind of a 45C cut from behind in the pocket but i dont use it anyway so meh

and regarding the rest i was quite careful with a angle grinder out of all things and its as good as the real thing

I just dont like supporting scum bag wreckers who charge a arm and a leg for stuff due to were "young" so we got to mod

But if i do see a double din surround at a pick a part place it will only be $12 so il go for it but till then i am happy
