Evening all, been a while since i posted in here!!
Today I purchased my newest toy, an Oct 94 NC Fairlane Ghia ( I believe some call it a series 3?). Its fairly tidy, 210,000km, 4.0 6cyl, and bog stock. not for too long. Here's the Fairlane as it sits now: Sorry about the bad pic quality as it was taken on my phone. I also have this: I bought this for $200 earlier this week with intention of wrecking it and selling the 5-speed out of it and making some cash off it. I changed my mind when I bought the Fairlane, im really not a fan of automatics and my BA is auto so I made the decision to install the 5-speed into the Fairlane. Hasn't happened yet, but it will probably happen early in the new year, once my BA has its new motor and is back on the road again. I know NCIILANE will appreciate this build Also, anyone know where I can get an off the shelf 2,5'' system for one? The one on it is Fubar. I tried all my suppliers at work and they tell me its a custom job.... (I lined up standard sedan, wagon and fairlane centre muffler sections of the same model and the fairlane is halfway between the lengths of the sedan and wagon...) anyway, I'll keep updating as I do more stuff to it, slowly. Hopefully will get some mags for it, or just lower it and keep the wheels as is. Not sure yet, I do like the wheels. Chris

yup that is a III. you can tell by the full color coded bumpers and you would have a leather steering wheel.
i have a Green NCII keep wanting to paint it white when i see ones like this they look so good. look forward to your build |

Same series as my NC. These can fit some serious wheel and tyre combo's! I have 18 x8.5 and 18x10's, with the room for 9.5/11.5. Looks like a good base!

Re the exhaust, I would get an off the shelf centre section from the cat to before the diff for a sedan or wagon, and then get an exhaust shop to fab the rest.
Cheers BenJ

So the manual is going in Friday night, one of my customers is generously lending me his workshop for the night so I have a hoist to make the job alot easier.
Hopefully if everything goes smoothly, it should only take about 4 hours! I'll take lots of progress pics.

Well, she's all done!
Didnt take as long as the last time I converted a car to manual... As sone people remember that must've been some kind of record. This took from about 6pm till 2am, including stripping the wagon and fairlane dash for the pedalbox swap and a couple suspension fixes on the fairlane. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, hopefully I can take it for a good drive once I've got all Tue dash back together!!

Some pics from this evening after a car club cruise:
Manual goodness Nothing special to look at now, hopefully a nice new set of wheels and some shorter suspension and piss off that towbar and it'll be looking sweet!

Hi again,
So the bush on the shifter is quite flogged out as you can see here: And I hate having the lever bolted straight to the shaft in the gearbox, makes it too notchy and clunky for me. So i decided to make my own. I originally thought of hacking up an engine mount to get a nice chunk of rubber to drill out and use: As I could make about 4 of them out of the one mount: but i thought it was too time consuming, so I went the cheap way, using 2 Mackay A755 suspension bushes and installing the tubes from the old bush in them, quite a snug fit: one is turned upside down so you can see the step in the bush (which fits perfectly in the shift lever hole) They just fit side by side, and once bolted up they seem to work fine. theres a bit of movement due to there being 2 bushes and not one single one, but its fairly minimal and reduces heaps of vibration and notchiness:

thanks mate, currently the photos do it a bit of justice, the interior needs a really good clean especially after the conversion (getting in and out with greasy clothes and boots) and the bumpers dont quite line up properly.
It'll get there though, after a really good buff it should be looking a bit better.

yeah Im only going to try lining up the front and back bars once, if i cant get them any better then i'm just going to leave them and put up with it.
It's out of rego now so i can work on the rust in the doglegs, theres a few spots in the usual places.
