Afternoon all,
been driving the Fairlane around all day since converting it last night and it seems that it has a rather large shudder on take off. Could the cause be the fact that we completely forgot to have the flywheel machined? Or does something else cause it? Chris

If the flywheel is bad enough, yes it can cause shudder.

did you look at the flywheel face condition at all when it was apart? Last time I did a new clutch I was in a hurry, didn't have any other transport, etc etc - looked at the flywheel and thought oh bugger it I won't get it resurfaced, gave it a going over with wet/dry 600 grit paper - I got a little bit of shudder when cold for a week or so and thought oh bugger, stuffed that up...and thought same as you, I'll wait until I need a new clutch - car's going, can't be stuffed pulling it all out etc - after a month or so it all bedded itself in and it was all good. That was nearly 5 years ago now, still on that same clutch, everythings fine....

a bit of oil in there on assembly can do that to.. did you burn the surfaces clean? They are pretty bulletproof. I mixed and matched a second hand clutch plate with a different second hand pressure plate onto a second hand flywheel and I'm surprised it's still going strong, not that I recommend that lol.
My old mans cruiser leaks oil from the rear main when it sits for a long time and causes shudder untill it burns off.
