I'm putting an AUII XR8 motor into my 86 F150 and need to know what type of fuel pump will be required and what pressure is needed for the injection system to be happy. I can't fit an internal pump due to tank restrictions. What pressure does the system normally run? and is there a problem turning the pump off while running on LPG? What role does the pressure switch play?

What size fuel reg doe the XR8 run?
You need to be able to deliver that pressure... Plus you have a fuel filter between the rail and pump so you'll need more pressure at the pump again... Have a look at a Bosch 023 or the Walbro equivalent intank pump to suit this engines... Find the specs and then match that on an external pump... I think the fuel pump itself is capable of delivering a lot more than 300kpa... That's fuel rail pressure... Cheers, Tim

Ok...
Back after doing a stack of reading... Walbro (because the Bosch wesbite is useless) use the GSS342 pump their AU replacement cradle... The GSS342 pump is the high pressure version of the 255lph pump... So one page says that at 80psi (551kpa) the 255lph high pressure pump will flow 210lph A different page says all 255lph high pressure pumps flow 255lph at 50psi (345kpa) it also says all 255lph pumps should flow about 285lph at 0psi... So if your pump can match the intank replacement to suit the XR8 I think you'll be pretty right... Cheers, Tim

Thanks Tim. The pump specs says 200lph @ 5bar. I was going to fit the filter near the tank before the pump. Any reason why that won't work?

Ahhhh... Dunno... Only familiar with intank pumps... I'd email the distributor and ask if the pump has the ability to such through a blocked filter... I know EFI pumps push through a blocked filter ok... Be a real bugger if your filter gets only a little blocked and the pump isn't designed to suck against a blocked filter and starts to cut out on you...
Someone else may know more on this too... So your pump is 200lph at 500kpa and the Walbro one is 210lph at 550kpa so not that far off... Seems ok... I'd just check with the manufacturer is possible where the fuel filter should go... Cheers, Tim

No worries, if after the pump is normal I'll just go with that. I hadn't considered the possible sucking problem. I don't need to create issues...

May be right... I know the old man's carby car has it before the mechanical pump... I know some pumps don't pump well against suction... Just don't know about fuel pumps... I'd still email the manufacturer and see what they say...
