The did have hybrid ED/EF engines floating around. I'd never seen one in an ED before, but saw a few at wreckers in the utes.
I think the change was mid ED life cycle. Not sure of the exact date though. I've certainly seen ED's with the 14mm lifter, but I know they were early build ones. Unfortuntely, like alot of Falcons, there is no definite times or reasons why they chopped and changed parts as hey have. Bloody Ford! |

Now looking to go with the 11mm setup, the pivot point on the lifter where it meets the valve is a better design I think..
Am now looking for 11mm shims (prolly go wreckers), but I might get some new lifters anyway, as 1/12 is jammed on that pivoting part. I found new lifters for $9.40 each.. is there a better price than that? Have come this far, and don't really wanna use the 11mm lifters that will come with the rocker gear I get from the wreckers.. may as well go new. |

im guessing the smaller lifter still provide the same amount of lift to the valve?
i noticed the ef gear looked alot more solid than the EB stuff i was using, but didnt want to go putting in smaller parts incase it f**k up the way the cam worked

Either lifter/rocker is the same in terms of lift and geometry. Same ratio, etc, etc. Just one is lighter than the other. $9.40 is a good price. Last time I bought them at mates rates, they were $9ish each and retailed for about $15. |

I think I read that I can skimp on the retainers.. or it was better not to use them when running double shims.
Also hear the retainer is good as it holds the lifter in place (but it's not gonna come out when the rockers are assembled!) and it limits the oil flowing past the lifter.. If I can make a decision on these retainers, I will order them today. |

If you heard or read anything about skipping the retainers, it would be my comments in the first 6 or so posts in this thread...
I wont repeat it, so I'll make you go back and read them. In the end, the decision to use or not to use it upto you. One can only provide advice and reasoning. |

Travelled back in time to page 1, and re-read why, cheers arm.
Did some ringing around, fkn fraud want $57ea for 14mm and $80ea for 11mm (yes $960 a set LMFAO). Might be on to a winner with Autopro, $84 for a set. They're confirming tomorrow. Powermax brand.. Others I'm getting prices on are NASON (same as my timing kit) and Austral. Anyone used these brands? Can't imagine there'd be much difference between quality of lifters?? What ones did u get arm? |

Don't know what brand they were... Looked exactly like AU lifters, and came in a small brown box in packs of 4.

Any one herd of machining the rocker train down to eliminate shims? I got a cam ground up and its a big plucker ... buy feeler gauges about 2.4 mm before i get any sort of valve friction between hdla and valve...
not to keen on running 3 shims under there will be to much as there shims are 1.8 mm and 2 shims il be to loose...... |

JMM say not to do that (grind down the pedestals) as it affects geometry of the valve train.

arm79 wrote: Later ED's had the smaller lifters... And I'd be using them. Less weight make for better engine revving and smoothness. Also the earlier EA/B/D shims came in 3 thicknesses, not just the 1 like the smaller lifters. Wahhhhh im now worried i got a random set of boxcar shims for my EA for a 1636 install , will i be ok ? |
