Hey guys, I've got a set of Pacemaker 4499s ready to go onto my EL Fairmont Ghia, but I'd like to hide them with some sort of heat shield, is this something an exhaust shop can sort out for me? I don't want them viewable from the engine bay.

shouldn't be to hard to make a heat shield, as you can buy it in sheets and bend it urself. just be warned that trapping extra heat around your extracts can cause them to crack!!!!!
so ideally don't cover them

I'm sure you can buy the same material that the AU exhaust manifold cover is made from in sheets. I don't think it would be wise to wrap ya extractors as you want to get rid of as much heat as you can from that area as you probably know, too much heat under the bonnet can and will destroy surrounding components.

That is the whole purpose of a head shield...to protect surrounding components from the heat that is expelled from the extractors...either by direct blocking or diverting the heat downward when the car is moving. Although the best way would be to get the extractors ceramic coated. It can reduce engine bay temperatures, corrosion and looks better too, however it can get expensive depending what kind of finish you are after. Another option is to buy some heat wrap and wrap each individual pipe.

yeah, i get that, but would you find that the AU style heat shield more beneficial than the wrap?

I covered my extractors with an au heat shield o recon it looks almost factory. I just welded some bolts to the extractors where the holes where in the heatsheild and did it up with some nuts.

I'm after a factory style look, but I'm also considering getting the extractors heat coated too anyways.

From my understanding, the AU heat shield will just deflect direct heat from other engine components...it's like standing in the shade of a tree. When moving the hot air is diverted under the car much easier...although when stationary long enough might not make much of a difference. Heat wrap on the other hand will trap the heat inside the extractors which is forced out of the exhaust. Not sure if this will be detrimental to the extractors/exhaust system since it would be running at a slightly hotter temperature range due to the trapped heat. At work we use heat wrap to reduce temperature drops inside a tube in lab reactors, so I would assume it would do the same to extractors. Either way, there will be less radiant heat coming off the extractors. In saying all that...I could also be talking a lot of s**t...however that makes sense to me in a way.

If you can afford the time and money, get them ceramic coated. Pushes most of the heat out the back of the car. Header wrap 'may' promote rusting, but, would be better than just a shield. The shield is better than nothing at all. Just my 11 cents worth...(+ GST)
