G'day people,
Has anyone got a solution for this problem? 3 days ago I removed a problem Auto Trans box from the AUII and replaced same, I believe it could have been AUII or AUIII. The original gearbox speedo reading at 100kph, on the GPS the reading was 95kph. With the replacement gearbox, the speedo at 100kph , on the GPS reads 105-107kph. Where would this problem be and how to rectify Cheers |

Thanks, good idea, never thought of that at the time, unfortunately its now at a transmission joint with new parts installed. April is pick up. Correction to the vehicle it came from. The replacement gearbox came out of 2001 Ford Fairlane sedan with 209,000 klms on the clock Cheers |

Is there only one way to connect the cable from the speed transducer?
The holes and plugs are triangular shaped. Maybe the cable was connected the wrong way and under reads, the original over read. Car Speedo at 55kph Reads 60 kph on GPS "" "" 75kph " 80 "" "" "" "" "" 95kph 100 "" "" GPS Cheers |

it only plugs in one way..
you need to change the gear on the speedo sender.. you said the box came from a fairlane.the fairlane will have 3,45 diff ratio where your car will have 3.08 or 3.23 ratio. so the box from the fairlane has a speedo gear for 3.45 ratio..hence why the reading is incorrect |

Thanks mate, I did not realise the difference in diff ratio between AUII and Fairlane , that would explain the readings I have. To change the gear on the speedo sender, do I need to remove the rear extension housing where the speed transducer is located? Cheers |

no, just need to unscrew and remove the sender from the extension housing and unclip the gear from the sender ans re fitt the right gear,,

You can pull the transducer without pulling the box. Don't take the extension housing off. It can be a little tight if you have big hands and do it when the car is cold as you will burn yourself on the exhaust. If you have trouble getting to it you can drop the gearbox mount and tilt the motor and box down a little but you shouldn't need to do that. Much easier if you can access a hoist.
