Hi guys and girls
Haven't posted in a while but was hoping someone could help me out. I have an EF 5ltr auto that seems to be rooted, but I wanna know if there was possible to fix it before forking out for a new v8 box. In any forward gear it seems to free rev from a standstill or even at a rolling start of around 20kmh. basically if I take off out of the driveway or from the lights it revs for a bit, shudders, makes a honking/whining sound before it actually engages and takes off. I'm hoping that a bit of fluid or replacing the inhibitor switch will fix it but as it gets worse I'm getting worried I may have to replace the box. I might add too, that, whilst this is the case with the box majority of the time, it does have the odd day or 2 where it seems like a perfectly fine gearbox. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated. Cheers Grant |

Silly Question, but have you check the Trans fluid level?

Hi SWC
It has an EL box in it because when I bought the car the gearbox was stuffed and I picked this one up 2nd hand, so it is a sealed unit (no dipstick) and to get the fill plug off is nigh on impossible without a power tool coz the last person to have it off was the tranny mechanic so as yet I haven't been able to check it. Lack of cash also provents me going back to the same fella. I am planning on borrowing an impact driver from a mate soon to attempt getting it off, but I just wanted to see if there was anyone whos had the same problem to see if it may be more than that... I'm hoping that's all it is coz I have the fluid here ... |

Oil level is a good place to start.

Might see if I can get the driver tomorrow and I'll jump on here again after I give it a go. Fingers crossed ..
