TFORD8 wrote: I might be wrong, but I think thats normal? Only up to about 65 - 70kph depending on the final drive ratio. Mine will stay in 3rd in 'Econ' and change into 4th at about 65 - 70, but she will drop into 4th at 60kph in 'Power'. Thanks guys If it's staying in 3rd above about 80kph (unless you're still accelerating) there may be an issue. I'd start by checking the fluid level. As yours is an EL and therefore has no dipstick for the trans, it's a pain in the a** job. First you'll need to take it for a drive to get to operating temp, then give it 10 - 20 mins to cool. While you're waiting, jack all 4 wheels up and get it up on axle stands so the car is level. Make sure the bottom of the trans is not too hot to touch. Then undo the filler plug on the drivers side of the trans, taking care not to burn yourself on the exhaust etc. Fluid should be level with the bottom of the filler hole. Make sure you use the right fluid (TQ95 or equivalent, if unsure ask at the store) if you need to top it up as the BTRs can get a bit temperamental if you use the wrong type. Check the colour of the fluid in your trans as well, if it's a really dark red or brown it'd be time to get it serviced and a full flush done.

TFORD8 wrote: "limp" mode? Doubtful.. it won't go into 4th at all in limp mode, nor would it be behaving normally in power. Just to clarify... It won't change into 4th at all in Econ? Regardless of if you're doing 60 or 110kph?

TPS, solenoids and even Temp sensor issues can effect how the trans changes gears, and hold it from going into over drive....?

It is a reco box and when it was 5000ks old it would not shift out of first. Took back down the shop and 300 bucks later they gave it a service and put a new speedo transducer in and it was fine.it is now about 8000ks old. It goes into 4th in econ at about 80+

Have you serviced it since? Fluid/filter etc? Do it yourself is pretty cheap/easy... Id start by checking levels, fluid quallity, then go from there. Also, personally ive found my falcons(s) autos all liked to be a bit over full...

Mine does the same, I have to try and drive it so it changes less violently (clunky)... Im hanging to flush it though... Id suggest you do same. Is all the time, or just cold mornings, etc...? Start by dropping the sump... And remember to also inspect the bottom of the pan for "bits" and clean it too.

Yeah, so does mine... Im wanting to clean throt body, cables, and trans service...
But I drive mine flat out, back off to let it change, then flat... How many ks is yours? Mines done 180k, and as far as I can tell, most of the parts are OE motorcraft, dizzy etc...
