I had a read of that in my earlier searchings, thanks for posting it.
I ended up getting a box from RVO Automatics in Dandenong.
Apparently this is a serious high performance transmission built to last with very firm shifts and able to handle 400 RWKW. It also comes with a 12 month warranty.
They are using an XR6 Turbo casing as the internal casing geometry is the same as a BA and BF V8, so they can convert all the internals to build an ED V8 auto to the same spec.
They will use the ED V8 pump, input and output shafts and a new btr 95 planetary gear set.
They modify the valve body and pump and increase the frictional grip.
They also pin the stators to stop them spinning in the pump.
It even has a speedo hole that the Ba didn't and a dipstick.
All this shipped for a real nice price.
I will just get a shop to do the swap over when it arrives, as I really don't feel like struggling to get a tranny out from under a car on stands let alone putting one back in.
So I may give rebuilding the old box a go and use it as a spare.

The box arrived a few days ago and the car goes in this arvo.
Im back to a stock stall with a heavy duty converter, so it will obviously drive differently but may help with street light traction... will let you know.
I didn't ask about the full manual option, and the topic never came up. Besides I don't realy want it.
