I'm not sure if this is the correct section for my problem, if mods need to move it then please do so.

Lately I have been experiencing a problem with my remote keypad. On more than 3 occassions I had the red transmitter light stay on.

The first time this happened I took it to Ford, the guy opened the keypad housing and took the battery out and checked the buttons and circuit board, all seems well and reinstalled the battery.

Red light transmitter functioned correctly, I was told I might have had something laying against the terminals....4 times this happened and each time I done what the Ford guy did,,,there was no debris or any foreign item inside the circuit.

Last 5 days I find the remote keypad not opening the boot from outisde of vehicle but will do when from the inside of vehicle from the rear door entrance. At other times I have no transmission light.

Has anyone had a similar problem to this and what was the cause?

I wonder if the remote keypad battery is on it's way out and needs replacing or would it be the keypad itself playing up.

Any thoughts on what the problem could be would be welcome.

Was the battery renewed or just reinstalled? In my experience, the old smartlock (ED-AU1) remotes do all kinds of weird things when the battery is nearly flat. So even if yours is an AU2/3 (Smartshield) I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with it.

Battery was not renewed just reinstalled. Mine is an AU2. Smartshield hey! I would not have thought of that one.

I'll buy a new keypad battery next week (Monday) and see if I have the same problem.

I've replaced the keypad battery and works good a few times and now goes back to what it was again.


Sometimes the transmitter light does not work, other times it does. Each tiem it does not light up. I open the remote keypad housing, remove the battery, give it a blow and wipe and reinsert. Replace cover and works good again.

Getting a bit monotenous now. What is the lifespan of Keypads? Or maybe the keypad is starting to fail. Keypad is 18 months old. Ford service centre could not see anything wrong with it (so they say).

Any thoughts??

Terminals are clean, will check for oxidation but did not see any on first glance. Still tight fit.

What's a good spray to use to treat oxidation on the remote keypad?

I've got an air compressor so it's no problem to dry off any moisture.

Thanks , there are 4 switches, tiny things, too tiny for me to mess with might have to see an electronics technician to check it out

I did ask Ford at the time of purchase whether it came with a warranty but never said.

I have a receipt somewhere if I can find it.

If tech charges too much then I'll have to invest in another remote keypad.

Try wd40 I had the same prob today and it worked great! Push all the buttons wile spraying it and make sure it's dry before reconnecting the battery. 2 hours not in direct sunlight should do.

I have an air compressor so I can dry it off quicker, or could leave it to dry naturally.

Work the buttons. Mine got better the more I sprayed and pushed! Compresser should pretty much do it. Maybe 10 mins for the buttons. There small but look to me like there sealed.Wd dries fairly quick.

Yep, works a treat and remote keypad back to normal. Will be having another spray of WD40 tomorrow (Sat) as the lock button is getting a bit stiff again, all other buttons are good.
