Hey there.
Doing some testing to try and figure this battery drain. Can anybody tell me what sort of draw the battery should have just sitting. I have the mA floating around 27 - 29.0, I pulled fuses and relays one by one in the car, and under the hood. No change. I disconnected the sub amps and that made no difference. I unplugged the alternator plug an that dropped it to dead 0. I reconnected the alt plug and went through the fusible link plugs at the positive terminal, no drop at all, except the white/black wire from the positive to the alternator reg drops it to zero. There is a steady 12.9v going through this wire. Crossing the alt main yellow wire terminal to ground shows 13.1V. I'm assuming there should be some sort of low draw, but everything either dose nothing or cuts it off completely. Can't find a half way point. The car is killing batteries pretty well. It drained a new battery in 2 days and has killed it, the "eye" won't go green again with a decent charge time.. Any ideas on what else I can try?

Sorry, you lost me on that one..
Which factory test procedure? What is it similar to? If it isn't too complicated I can call you or something..

i'll scan the pages and put them up. basically its if you have got certain voltages/resistance at certain points, your looking at an alternator fault

If the current draw stops when you unplug the alternator, replace it. problem solved.

Sweet, that's legendary!
Thanks heaps Ranga. That was my new thing learned for the day. I do have the factory manuals but didn't think of looking there yet... Thanks also Tickford, I did just replace the alternator for a better looking unit that had an aftermarket rebuilders sticker on it. It seems to charge good, but i think I remember something about them still being able to wear and short out some way that dosnt affect it's charging ability. Unfortunately though. Yesterday arvo the engine died in it. Check out my build thread for details..
