G'day folks
Got a BF XR8, while back i built my self a boxed pod filter styled off the BPR one except i made it out of sheet metal (Basically a L shaped wall with rounded lid and pod filter in behind the headlight, lovingly hand beaten, trimmed with rubber and painted black). Its got a mid size Drift pod filter in it, works pretty well (and basically only owe's me the cost of the filter). Got a chance to pick up a SS inductions growler box for sub $200 but i've heard they're not really that great. Worth getting do you think? Or should i just stick with my box? on a side note, what would be a good way to insulate the box, it does seem to get a fair bit of heatsoak from the engine bay being sheet steel, no idea what the actual intake temps are like though |

i used single sided adhesive foam, its about 8mm thick. works well.
whatever you use doesnt have to look pretty as its hidden, you can glue anything that is capable of insulating, and wont fall apart. unless you want the SS box for looks, its up to you...

probably going to keep my CAI, just don't think it'll ever be worth changing, which is why i built one to begin with (could never justify $400-$600 for either some moulded plastic or bent metal to cover a $60 air filter when i could just make it my self lol),
I'll save the cash for a flash tuner and some insulation (and to fix the epically slow oil leak my boss has somewhere that i can't find :S Annoying every time i open the bonnet the side of the air box/lower rad hose/oil switch wiring has little bits of oil splash on it from the drive belt, been all over and can not find where the hell its coming from, engine and power steering oils never go down.....nfi where its coming from) |

would be just about pointless trying to insulate it. as the inlet plenum also gets heat soak.
the air flowing through will be going fast enough for it to not be a issue.

true, but when you sitting at a set of lights, surely that first gulp of air off the line will have to be a few degrees cooler...
