Hi
does anyone know if the transmission in the NAII 4spd Auto will fit into the NA in place of the 3 speed without changing ECU and wiring harness and all? Regards Barry

Should do. Just as long as you get the separate transmission control unit from the donor car. I think they are mounted on the pedal box. Of course, you will have to run the auto control loom.
Since the auto is electronically controlled, it will probably need signals from the speedo transducer and the throttle position sensor. If you get all associated wiring from the donor car and transfer to yours, the job will be much easier.

It mightn't fit in the trans tunnel - EA/NA/DA 3 speeders might've gotten the XF style tunnel.
Somebody might be able to confirm. In that case, an EA 4sp or later tunnel section needs to be welded in, or fit a T5 manual. More reading: ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/4l-xf-sedan-t37719.html ford-x-series-f29/au-ba-engine-and-trans-in-an-xf-t43648.html I guess too the engine might be CFI - so if you're swapping looms, might as well go MPEFI. IIRC, a few have done it on here.

it should fit, but the body dont have the mounting point for the 4 spd auto gearbox x member.
the 5 speed manual and 3 speed auto x member mounts aprox 2" further forward from memory, compared to the 4 speed auto, and as the 4 speed had not been used in series 1 the mounting area is not there...those that have seen under a ea2 /eb ect will know what i mean, 2 sets of mounting points... |

I know what you mean about the 2 sets of mounting points, Troy. There are 4 off M10 bolt holes for transmission cross members on EBII. When I did the manual conversion the EA crossmember was waaaaay too wide, so I ended up flipping the auto one around backwards and it fitted perfectly.

You can see the 'spare' holes behind the crossmember.

I happen to have an NA with a 4 speed, so yes they do fit, but be careful when looking for a 4 speed as they can be problematic. (changing at wrong time, getting stuck in limp mode etc.)
