the fuel guage on the ef falcon stop working. it just sat on empty with the warning light illuminated. decide to investigate on the weekend. after pulling out the fuel pump/sender unit from the fuel tank i noticed the sender unit float was stuck inside a black tube thing about 30cm long. once removing this object the fuel guage starting working again. my question is what is it? and more importantly where in the fuel tank is this thing suppose to go? any help much appreciated. i've got a copy of the Gregorys manual and didn't find any mention of any object like this. i've attached photo.

Had a customer that had the exact same problem. Pretty sure that bit you have goes up the tank's filler neck. From memory we just left it out because it wasn't important.

it go's on the inside of the filler neck and acts like a guide when the tank is empty,i presume to stop the fuel splashing around too much to help the vapor levels to stay down,we all know vapor is dangerous.
