Hey guys, got a late xf ute, 1992, tired.....400,000 plus k's....decided to buy a set of genie headers (or extractors?)....try y's...with long secondary pipes....mated it to a 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent exhaust....and now the old bomb goes quite well.....even with 40 w 70 oil to keep the pressure up on the highway....

Any idea of HP gains with this set up...10 kw...12kw.....

I am going to rebuild the old bomb with a small 465 cfm holley vac sec 4 barrel, mild cam, mild head work....hoping to see 200 hp....should go ok....or should I just turbo it?

Cheers
Max

Turbo would get you more RWKW...

Thanks mate,

I thought as much.....what sort of HP gains get with a lowish boost....6 to 8 psi, maybe as much as 10....I just want a nice quickish reliable old ute...

And could I run a standard bottom end with lowish boost?

Thanks

I'm not that knowledgable on the turbo setups as I went the opposite way. But a snort setup would see 180ish RWKW or 230 rwhp ( low end turbo kit ), engine wouldn't need any strengthening I wouldn't think but I could be wrong...

Thanks mate, heard of those, that is plenty for me, very manageable and would make my 1320kg ute go pretty well I reckon...

I have to source a T5 and conversion (plus borg warner LSD when I do it)...I am thinking running 3.23 or 3.45...should have a decent enough 5th gear on the highway...I am just a bit worried it may run out of revs maybe even a 3.00 LSD...which I have in an old ZH fairlane I intend to do up...could throw the current open wheeler 2.92 into it...

Thanks for the reply mate.

a set up like I describes should run easy 14's....and o to 100k's in 6's....am I around the mark?

No worries mate

Yeah mid 14s sounds about right, the 3:4:5 LSD should be fine but I haven't mucked around with my ratios yet so something like a 2:8:9 would benefit
