My car is an eb gli with manual window winders which i will be keeping.
ford-interior-f14/installing-ef-el-console-into-ea-eb-ed-t52980.html Ok so i have started to do this mod using fairmont console i thought about making the power window switches toggle is it possible? Has anybody done it? What are the six pins on the bottom of switches for(positive, negative etc)? My reason for wanting to do this will be to manually turn on my thermos and driving lights possibly some other things not to sure yet. Cheers Zac

You will have all sorts of trouble trying to devise a system to make these switches toggle... It would be far easier to do with electronics than mechanically... IE push on, push off... not sure if there is any default circuits out there and unless your handy with IC's and electronics than making your own integrated circuit may be hard too...
On my ED fairmont centre console I integrated BA illuminated window switches for my front power windows seeing as I run EF/EL XR trims which supported front only power windows... Most switches would clip into that blanking plate without much hassle, despite being curved... Not sure if that is possible on the EF/EL one? Best place I reckon for it would be to find the std switch from a wagon for the rear wiper which I guess clicks on and clicks off and mount that next to the demister switch for your thermos... If your using it as an everyday car (not racing) and the thermos are set up properly then you should never need a manual switch... Although we have no standstill traffic here my thermos only every run on low some of the time and occasionally high when the AC is on... Cheers, Tim

The wagon rear window wiper switch is a good idea for my thermos. The reason i want to manually override them is just in case it doesn't come on for some reason or maybe for the rare occasion i do a bit of a skid
I just thought that the power window switches would be good because it has that factory look and im able to hook up a few different things. Cheers Zac

Zac,
Best option I can think of... Just hoping the wagon wiper switch does click on and off... Isn't a press on press off like the rear demister... Something for you to look into anyway... You wont make those switch mechanically work the way you want... but as I said electrically with a flip flop circuit in between the switch and the relay you could get away with it... I just don't know of an off the shelf kit to do that... It'd have to be custom made... Would be weird having something there like that though... If it is a rare use item, then up on the dash would be better... Other option is one of the blanks to the side of the steering wheel too? I have the fairmont antenna half/full height switch in mine I use to turn on and off the sub (which basically never gets used)... They click on click off... The manual electric antenna had a momentary switch but so be weary of them... Cheers, Tim

Im not sure how the rear wiper switch works on the wagon but i will find out.
I have a mate that is pretty good with his electrical type stuff so a flip flop circuit might not be too bad an idea. I get that on the dash would be better for thermos but there is a few things that i will eventually wont to hook up (like a sub). Doesn't the antenna switch have to be held on the same as power window switches? Cheers Zac

on some cars with the manual electric antenna yes... on high series factory fitted with the two stage one no... it was on halfway (contacts open maybe) and the you clicked it over to full height and the contacts closed...
Be real easy way of doing it... as I said it controls the trigger for my sub... so if the car is off and I'm using the audio system I can turn the sub off to save the battery a bit... and I never use it... Cheers, Tim

Ok well i have looked into it and my mate tells me he can do a flip flop mechanism so that's is definitely on the cards
Also i checked an el wagon and it rear wiper switch is a proper on of switch so just hoping ea/eb/ed are the same Cheers Zac

Hi,
A latching relay to run the main one will do what you want. Regards 96ELGli

DPDT means Double Pole Double Throw. Vs and OV are your Pos and Earth coming in from the cars battery (C&F) and (A&D) cross over each other and go to the Motor to give you your Up and Down. Cheers |
