Just wondering what people have done about this?

It was like it when I bought the car a few weeks ago.
My idea was to pull the diff out and helicoil the threaded hole, but I've also been told just to replace the rear cover.

Any other ideas or thoughts?

I can post a pic if you like, but there's not really much to see since the diff is still in the car.
