Just replaced an alternator on BA and at idle I am getting over 15V (15.3V) across the battery terminals. I was expecting around 13.8V is the new one a dud?

I thought it should be 14.4 not 13.8?

New, well its recoed but new everything except the case according to the ebay listing.
The terminal voltage is constant from idle to 3000rpm with the lights on or off.

Be wise to message the seller, IMO voltage is too high.

We agree, in my opinion it is too high as well. Today I got some new brushes and installed them in the old alternator, put it in and tested it and it runs 14.4V with a partially discharged battery , perfect except for the noisy bearings. With the packing that came with the new one it had the test results printout and it indicates 14.4V. I will give them a call tomorrow.

ba alternators have a sense wire that links back to the battery, if the wire has a bad connection or is broken, the alternator can overcharge, best thing to do it disconnect the grey plug off the alternator and measure the voltage on the two pins with the key on, and compare with the battery voltage
