My au has developed a curious prob it surges uphills .i replaced the fuel filter even though it was only 2 months old didnt help.then I thought leads breaking down under load but then i realised it doesnt surge when i give it a boot full does any one think it could be the fuel pump? Any other suggestions ?

Could be the Air By pass valve. That's the one that sits on top of the Throttle body. Check it, sometimes the valve inside it gets stuck, they have a tendency to carbon up.
