Hi guys,
I am planning to give an AU xr6 auto a bit of a tickle with a turbo setup & hopefully get somewhere between 300 - 350 rwkw, But will the tickford driveline handle that kind of grunt? This will be a D.I.Y project yet to be started & at the moment I'm still researching all facets of this undertaking. Any help or opinions will be greatly appreciated

if your aiming for 300-350rwkw, good luck getting those figures diy...lol
your box will not last long with power over 250ish rwkw... diff will be ok depending on how hard you abuse it... |

It's possible, but what does DIY mean to you?
You'll need to buy good parts, most expensive item would probably be ECU/ manifold. You can run a cheap eBay spec turbo, there's a few for $500 or less that'd do the job. Stock internals will support that power level with a quality (emphasis on quality) tune. Auto will be hating life, add 1-2 trans coolers and prepare to fork out for a rebuilt unit or replace them. If its a live axle I don't think you'll have much of a drama with the diff. Axles can twist and snap. LSD won't last if you peg it mid corner though. You'll want near $10k to do it. |

DIY to me really just means sourcing parts myself & doing most the labour, of course I'll be getting what i can't do, by qualified or experienced people, such as tuning.
I'll probably do another month or so researching before i buy anything. the a** has an irs lsd in it, if I'm going to need a stronger box, so be it, also will the tickford tailshaft hold up? I may give it a wind out occasionally, but don't intend to be abusive.

The BTR will take 300 rwkw but it depends how you drive it ??
Two [Normal off the shelf] coolers restrict flow too much.. Think about fitting a larger cooler such as engine style.. A 66mm turbo with T04 turbine housing between .82 and 1.00 will do fine.. Larger on auto as they spool better..Yep wind the line pressure up so it shifts quick.. If there's issues or you want to push it harder ?? A T400 with reasonable mods will take heaps.. AU's and XR6's had higher compression.. SO max power levels with std rotating wont put out as much power as say an E series.. The higher comp will give better throttle response however.. Have you thought of buying another engine and fitting forged rods and pistons ?? Spool have a package priced well..

yeah, I think I'll be starting with another motor and strengthen it up.
Look at bigger valves & heavier springs, etc... in the head. Was considering a dohc 4.0 but was told staying with the au motor was a much easier option because of the harness differences.

Unless you want to go nuts power wise.. Just tidy up ports, seats etc. std valves and YES better valve springs..
