You mean the water pump face on the timing cover? Think he's replacing the entire cover...

could someone please tell me if this looks like the corect front seal for my new timing cover?? its hard buying parts when i dont know what i need and made even harder when the shops here have less of an idea than i do.

Looks a little different to the one i used... but got mine direct from ford.
If it tightly fits in the timing cover... and snugly fits over the crank... then it should do the trick.

Nah mate she's pretty "toight" fit in the timing cover. What i would say... is dont press it in just yet.... wait til the new timing cover is fitted to the engine, then slide the seal over the crank and tap her in to the timing cover. You need the bit of room to move between the crank and the timing cover when refitting the cover.

well once again you have saved me a heap of stuffing around. ive never taken more than a radiator out of the engine bay so i prob would have put the seal in the cover first. lol. thanks man

put the timing cover seal (round metal thing)in the freezer for 24hrs before you fit it to timing cover.

im assuming make it shrink just a little which may make it easer to tap in.. (provided you do it whilst its still cold )

Sorry to dig up an ancient thread. Just did a google search and it came up.
Looking at buying a 5L XR8, current owner says it needs a new timing cover/water pump gaskets, just wondering how much work this would be or roughly how much the average mechanic would charge to do?? Thanks for your help! |

It's about a 2hr job. I got my timing cover gasket set from Precision International for ~$22.

Just make sure you remember all the bolts are imperial.
