Hi all,
My wifes EF wagon has an OMVL converter and recently if you stomp the pedal a bit after sitting at the lights it will backfire and stall. (also does it if you drive slowly for prolonged periods and then accelerate quickly.) I assumed the idle setting on the converter was dumping too much gas into the intake at low revs so I tuned the OMVL as detailed on the post in here.... (wound in the idle, wound out the balance, started the engine and wound in the balance till it gets rough and then wind out the idle till it smooths out). It still backfired after idling for a while. So then I left the idle screw all the way in and opened the balance screw half a turn so the car would idle. Thought it was fixed then driving home last night it backfired 3 times at traffic lights when I went to take off. I'm now thinking it's not the converter but rather the stepper motor )which I'm guessing should stop too much gas getting though at idle?) not working or something but I imagine that someone that knows LPG systems would be able to tell me offhand with much more surety. Has anyone else had this issue and if so what was the cause? kindest regards Frank |

OK...
Seems from searching here and ford forums that this is caused by lean mixture, not rich as I was expecting. I actually made it worse by leaning out the mixture more... So to see if I can fix it.. I will see if I can richen up the idle a bit and also pull out and clean the stepper motor in case it isn't doing it's job. ta cheers Frank |
