Been chasing nigglingissues with my au work ute.
The symptoms are a very lethargic response to anything other than wot at hiway speeds and a general feeling of no power when cruising on the hiway. Ive done all the normal methods likeplugs and such, including a new coilpack when thelast one died. Fuel economy doesnt seem much altered, even after an ecu reset. What it feelsmlike to me, is that the ecu isnt adding sufficent advance in the 2k rpm area at cruise. Any ideas? I will be putting an exhaust on it soon as well as a j3 chip, buti would like to address this last issue before i do. It alsois on lpg via amos ring, but this issue is recent, the lpg is around 4 years old. |

a few things, what's the fuel filter like? when did you last change it? air filter? Sure you dont have a blocked cat? are the injectors clean? MAP sensor or anything like that playing up? I'd be pulling the codes and see how you go from there.

Air filter is new Injectors can be ruled out simply because it does the same thing on lpg and petrol, hence my feelings of it being a timing related issue. I have no idea if the map sensor is playing up, i have not researched how to check all that as yet. Its a job for the lomg weekend to investigate any and all thoughts put forward. |

Sounds like a blocked cat. When it's cold get under and give it a hit, you will usually hear a rattle.
Has it backfired recently? |

I'd also double check the throttle body is nice and clean and the accelerator cable it not stretched.

Yes but a binding cable can be worse at part throttle then what would be wot.
So the problem is that is sluggish at highway speeds only except at wot or at all speeds until you punch it? |

So the problem is that is sluggish at highway speeds only except at wot or at all speeds until you punch it? The pedal action, and TB, operates as one would expect. no binding is apparent. its sluggish in the 1900-2100 region at highway speeds. Feels like its got no timing in it. Cruise at 2200 and its good. If this was an earlier model with a distributor, i would have gone straight to base timing. Im wondering if the TPS isnt showing part throttle or map sensor being on the piss causing the ecu to run the car on WOT/high load timing maps. Bearing in mind im not expecting wonders, but its frustrating how hills that were crested wiith ease before now require dilligence on the throttle to kick it out of lockup and sometimes even down a gear. Goes same as ever at WOT. |

I had a similar issue with my eb when my near new o2 sensor was playing up. Wouldn't pull from cruise speeds but was good at wot, my car also surged slightly when I slowly free reved. Hold it at 1500 (or any rpm) free rev and it'd rev up and down 50-100rpm on it's own.

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if there has been any resolution to this problem? I have an AUII dedicated gas ute that has has displayed some of the problems mentioned here, but it has gotten worse and now is pinging even under light acceleration. I have already outlined what I have done to attempt to resolve this on another forum, so if you would be so kind to take a look and see what I have done so far that would be appreciated. Please feel free to post suggestions here or there as I want to close the book on this one! http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... ost4734735 Cheers Mick |
