The heads are practically the same, a little more compression from the EL head but that's about it.
Apparently the EB head flows better anyway.

If you want a worthwhile swap find yourself an XR6 head.

Cheers.

EB tickford heads dont have larger valves. they have a different shaped port on inlet and exhaust and are also shaved more for higher comp. they also had slightly heavier duty valve springs and different cam.

the bottom ends between stock and XR6 are the same.

I wouldnt waste your time tracking down XR6 heads. Put the money towards working your current head.

I agree with brad here. Get the head ported. or shaved too if you want higher comp.

Is there much of a gain with the larger XR6 valves?

I'm not sure if ED XR6 had larger exhaust valves - I know EF XR6 did - in any case, whatever model has them you'll find it's a design feature aimed at working with the cam - not simply an improvement in itself.

I fitted EF XR6 head to my ED - at the time I was running an EDXR6 cam and to be perfectly blunt I noticed virtually no difference except possibly a bit more willingness to rev out (as you'd expect I suppose). IMO it was NOT worth the money - I think better result can be had for same or only slightly more money by having a reputable shop do up a std head.

Minimal.. the size difference is pathetic, and the ports, comp and cam remain the same.

It cost me $40 to get 0.050" taken off my EL head.. The shop also quoted around $400 to clean up the ports and combustion chambers. Then just throw in a cam, and youre laughing.
