Will a steering rack from a 98 NL Fairlane fit a ED Fairmont Ghia -both V8.

Are e-series steering racks interchangeable?

was contemplating putting in the EL ghia steering assisted steering rack if it will fit.

also is it just the steering rack or other lines that need replacing also?

Racks are the same, but the splines on the top are different if that makes sense. There are enough differences that it isnt a bolt in change. You can use an EF/EL steering column though to work around this problem. Make sure its the matching one though (EF and EL are different, as are EF and EL columns)

Then you just have to match the wiring on the columns up... and thats easy too.
Pull them apart, and change the backs of the indicator switches and the windscreen switches to the EB ones. Then you'll have the right connectors.

(I have an XF 5.0 Falcon, with the EF Steering Column and stalks, but EB Wiring)

Thanks Nigel,

Sucks though as I can get a NL rack and steering pump hose for not much $.

Could I still Use my XR Momo Steering wheel or be left to EL type?

Nl = el. Go for it. Just get the column intermediate shaft and wheel as well

NL is speed sensitive though so may not fit.

The existing hoses will fit, you'll need to bend the bracket that bolts in front of the drivers engine mount.
And to have SSPS, you'll need an EL Ghia/NL/DL V8 ECU, or the rack will feel same as a std one.

Have a search of Denislovesit's threads, the lower column uni splines are covered.
