I had a search and could not find an answer..
As the title says, will an XH T5 fit into an EL? I've found a manual conversion on ebay, includes all the bits. Is the tailshaft a different length? Are the ratios different from an E series falcon? Is there anything I should know or check when buying a conversion kit? Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance ok. i don't know the model designation that well so i canna say if that box will or won't. 1- IF the van is the normal sedan wheelbase then yes it will be .. i'm presuming the car ya talkin about is the long wheelbase ghia? 2- this i have no idea but 'maybe' ? 3- that the box is in good nick [ie open box if need be or take someone who knows what ta look for]. if possible do what i did & buy complete car, then you will get the majority of parts needed |

Thanks in advance 1) XH T5 will fit the EL. 2) Tail shaft is the same for Auto or Manual in the E series. There are 2 lengths, short wheel base, sedan (GLi, Futura, Fairmont, XR) and long wheel base, Wagon, Fairlain, LTD, Ute. Long wheel base has an alloy tailshaft as std, short wheel base is Steel apart from XR's (Well most of them anyway). 3) XH Box I believe is the same ratios as the EF/EL. 4) If you are talking a complete conversion, ie, Bellhousing, Clutch, Pedal Box etc, then you should be good. Recommend that you reinforce the firewall while you are doing everything. |

Is there anything I should know or check when buying a conversion kit? Should have a 6 bolt flywheel with it.
Long wheel base has an alloy tailshaft as std XH's are an exception to this, they are LWB, but you will find the majority of them will have steel shafts.

Okay, thanks for the info
Just to clarify: My ghia has a short wheelbase steel tailshaft? Which tailshaft is the better of the 2? (I read that one of them fails at speeds over 180) |

Also keep in mind that the XH Pedal box is different to the EL.

I don't think it is by much this might've had an EF/EL column - the airbag module mounting should be there, I think the XH dash handbrake mounts on a different bracket setup to the EB/ED's. Have a look at my pedalbox tech doco - there are links the pedalbox differences.
Those ebay pics show a 6 bolt flywheel. You can get by with the EB/ED/XH shifter, but better to get an EF/EL one as well as the gearboot in the long term. XH ECU won't open the BBM runners at 3800 rpm either. EDIT: actually, it should do - that's an XH XR6 ECU, pretty much same as EL XR6 - be worth $$$ being a manual ECU. Check the no, I don't think it's an LPG ECU.

I was intending on getting a malwood clutch pedal pin, plus I have a J3 chip so I do not need the ECU.
Also I'll most likely buy a short shifter, And I have an EL GT gearboot already |
