Eng mounts are a common problem with BA/BF/FG. ask a Taxi driver.
They are expensive if you buy a Ford one, $140.00 approx. They are sold on Ebay for less but not genuine Ford. As for the tailshaft touching, lowering the vehicle would have no effect, more likely that because the mount is broken it will be allowing the engine to lift on acceleration. I would be changing it as soon as possible as the other side is now having all the load on it alone. You will need a jack, some stands and tools (of course) to do the job. |

Sometimes you can see an oil stain on the underside of the mount, through a hole on the cross member. When they break they leak oil because they are hydraulic and not solid rubber mounts.

undo the nut on the top and remove the the nut from the bolt in the cross member bracket at this point check if you can remove the bolt ,the engine is sitting on the mount and it has locating pins so the weight isn't on the nuts and bolt ,place a jack under the engine with a piece of wood between the jack and the engine ,slowly jack up the engine watching the mount and making sure it is not getting stuck ,once the engine has cleared the mount ,remove it and undo the nut holding the cross member bracket to the mount, fit the new one to the bracket and refit it then slowly lower the jack and guide thread through the hole ,make sure the pins locate then tighten all nuts and bolts
