Hey guys have a NC 302 pretty much stock, when i start the car cold it wont idle corectly seems to run like its got a cam in it but it doenst.

when under load it ticks like crazy and no tick on idle or when just giving it a rev in Neutral.

just wondering if i have a noisy lifter or is it another issue and how to look for and rectify it

Thanks

if it only does it under load and not when free revving its more than likely pinning

Could also possibly be a f**k exhaust manifold gasket.
They get worse under load.

that would sound about right as when i bought the car there was 3 bolts missing on either side for the headers i put some in, but gasket could of gone to poo while it only had a few bolts in it

ok played with it today, the sound is comming from piston 1, its on sublte on idle but gets loud on load.

i retarded the timing a little and it was a little better but did not go away, so i retarded it a little more and it stalled so put it back, any ideas,

the spark plug looked ok gave it a clean anyway, made no difference, found a vac leak and fixed that and it solved my idle issue but stick a taping noise from piston 1 under load.

Remove the plug lead of the cylinder the noise is coming from and take it for a quick drive.
If it disappears you may be looking at a stuffed gudgeon pin.

I think he means Pining for the Fjords . The Norwegian Blue prefers kipping on its back .
