Just wondering if anyone knows if the camshaft from an EL will work in an XG engine, and if the valve timing is the same.I need to know,so I can get the EL cam re-ground to give me a bit more power down low,as I changed out the original 3.45:1 Hydratrak to a 3.23:1 diff from an XH,and the ute is a bit of a slug when towing.
I ordered it from Ford new with the "Outback Pak",but the Hydratrak was too dear to repair.Any thoughts welcome. Cheers, Kevin. |

Yes EL/EF/ED/EB cams all ok to use as long as it is not a EL Hybrid (AU Cam).

Why not fit the 3.45 gears to the 3.23 diff???

Had to change the whole diff,as 2 crown wheel teeth were developing hairline cracks plus the Hydratrak clutch pack was RS.It was the cheapest and quickest way to get the ute back on the road for work.

Did you notice that the axles have 2 splines on them???? Take pics of them and post them up, so the guys can see how different they are. Hydratrack diffs were crap...the "cassettes" would sh!t themselves.

The LHS axles(long ones) have 2 splines on them, one for the side gear(pass side),and 1 for the clutch cssette on the drivers side. The RHS axle shorter one)has splines for the RHS side gear and the clutch cassette as well.I just couldnt afford or justify spending nearly $3.5 k to re-build a diff for a 15 year old ute that in all probability would only fail again.
Unfortunately the old diff went for scrap in the last council cleanup. |

Sent the EL cam away for grinding, but it looks like I picked the EL/AU hybrid one ,so ended up picking up an EB cam from an engine with only 187 odd k's on the engine. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time

how did you go , with your cam ? , i have a xh that was running until i changed the head to a 95aa, i tried to use the au/hybrid can and rockers but there was no compression , so i got the cam from the 95aa and rocker gear, trying to get it right as i tuned the cam gear on the chain and now trying to find tdc on compression with the dizzy pointing at the marker is driving me crazy
