Hi All,

I want to do a trans cooler install and wanted to see pictures of your install and how you did it...

Do i have to take off the front bar?

What size cooler?

What fittings and length of hose do i need?

Thanks to all in advance

Some pics - yes front bar has to come off

I Fitted a "little" PWR transmisson cooler - this one fits well for EF EL :) see pics :)

The actual name of it is Driveline Coolmaster CKT-038XL auto trans cooler - XL stands for EXTRA LARGE - it has the PWR stamp on it

Standard Cooler which has done the job for the 2800 stall :)

New PWR Cooler - fits nice :)
Image

Some Custom Brackets - they come with a kit to basically cable tie the cooler to the radiator but didn't want to do that - a bit dodgy - this way it has space inbetween the cooler and radiator

They really downsized the transcooler for the EF/EL, didn't they.

EB one is about twice the size:

Thought I'd mine this thread up from deep within fordmods storage rather than start a new thread.

Returning my car back to stock for better reliability and ease of driving through traffic, so an auto transmission will be going back in. However my original transmission cooling lines were thrown out and the current auto I have has cut lines that have been crimped shut.

So my questions:

1) Is the cooling line under high pressure?
2) If not, is it okay to just run some flexible hoses from the cut hard lines to the front and connect it to a universal cooler mounted as per DRHEMI?
3) How big does the cooler need to be for a stand alone system, ie. not plumbed through the radiator?

Cooling system pressure is around 25 to 30 psi.
The trouble with running ATF Cooler hose the whole way is making sure it is secure ( can't fall down, rub on anything, or get burnt by the exhaust, and eventually it will sweat at the clamped ends).
The next size down cooler from that extra large one would be sufficent......the ATF will take longer to warm up than one that runs through the radiator as well.

Thanks for the help cjh. Good to know half the size of the XL one is good enough for a stand alone, didn't really want one that big! Might make a custom hard line from the back to the front as well, but I think that might be an expensive exercise over hoses.

I'm in no real hurry to be honest. So if you pull them out without damage, that would be great, however I might still take it if the line is longer than what I currently have, which is only about 20cm. The closer to the radiator I can get, the better. From the radiator I will most likely cut it off and route it to the front for a PWR cooler. So don't need the whole length.
