Would a bad engine mount create such noise in the gear box when unloaded?
Thing is there is a delay of a couple of minutes for the noise to return if you go from drive back into N and P. |

Do you have a video or sound clip of the noise?
I have heard a whirr type noise that comes in park or neutral, it reverberates through the trans cooler lines. Try using a big screwdriver as a stethoscope on the cooler line to see if yours is similar. It may be the pump cavitating, there are some air bubbles in the trans fluid when this happens but unsure why. Cheers, Jason

Plus one for the converter bolts. I had a metallic tapping from the same place in the same gears. Auto rebuilder said box was stuffed and could sell me one for $2300 installed. Went home, read on here some tips and removed the access cover for the torque converter. Took off each bolt(there are four) one by one, cleaned and reinserted with loctite. Noise disappeared. While you are in there, get an air hose in there and blow it out also...I found enough gravel in there to tar a small driveway!!
Get your codes checked, also remove any shift kit installed...these will destroy your box very quickly as they are not designed to take the sharp torque shifts...the box that is...if used all the time. I find the power shifter switch gives me more than enough shift variety to get me into trouble! The shift kit will also eventually burn out your transmission module...I have pics of the destruction and may also cause a fire... Personal choice but I now have no shift kit... Hooroo |
