Ok ive been a member for a few years now but i dont believe i have ever posted so ill apologize for that first thing But anyways im in the process of building a 6 to replace the worked but getting pretty tired xflow in my XE ute, and i thought i would best find the info im looking for on here.
More info can be found here if anyones interested. http://www.xfalcon.com/forums/index.php ... -p/page-19 So what ive got so far is an AU6 that i pilfered from my old daily with about 270k on the clock but has been reasonably well cared for and after pulling it down it appears to tell the same story, so im going to be using the bottom end as the basis and then fitting as many go fast bits as i can muster within my budget as i put it back together. My xflow puts out around 300 horse as it is now so if i could aim for the 400hp mark and get at least 350 id be happy. Ill rattle off a parts list ive accumulated thus far and let me know if theres room for improvement or if ive left out some vital missing link to tie it all together with my goal im mind. -AU block/crank/sump -EF Tickford head (will be getting a skim and ill be doing a pocket/bowl job on it aswell) -Crow 2519 cam i pulled from a wreck i bought -Rollmaster vernier gear set and chain (to play with the semi small cam) -Crow 90lbs springs (plus 0.040 shims if i think i need them) -Pacemaker 4480 HPC coated pipes with 3" outlet flange -T5 5spd box/alloy shaft/custom 3.7LSD BTR rear end with diff girdle -Powerbond street/strip balancer -AU MLS VRS set with new head bolts + tiing cover seal kit. Thats what ive got so far... these are what else ive got in the plans but yet to source so input would be appreciated thanks. -Block to be zero decked with new rings/bearings thruout -Billet lightened flywheel -Cushioned button clutch -3" hiflow cat -Twin 2 1/4 exhaust with mufflers behind the diff that will be unboltable for strip duties -EF19A216A idler pulley setup to delete the AC pump And this is what ive got running my xflow at the moment that will all transferred across to the new donk.... -Megasquirt EFI management with TFI distributor -MSD 6AL + MSD blaster 3 coil + MSD Streetfire leads -BF turbo 29lb injectors fed via a bosch 044 from a swirl pot/fuel cell setup with -8AN lines feed and return with an Aeromotive 13109 boost ref adjustable reg (runs at 78% duty @5800rpm on the 250xflow at the momment) -EF fans (have the AU rad and fans ready to go in if they will fit the bill better) As always there will be some list of mods need doing to get it all in the hole i understand that and i think ive got most of that in the grey matter but what im more interested in finding out is the little hints and tips about getting the most from this combo that i may have overlooked.. Cheers |

Are you talking HP at the Flywheel pr the wheels?
Are you going NA or Boosted? |

HP at the flywheel, not proven on a dyno but equated from quartermile time vs vehicle weight.
I would like to fit a twinscrew blower onto it one day but for now it will be NA so im aiming for around 10.5 comp, maybe 10.8ish max if i can help it. I have an 94AB head and the AU nonVCT head here aswell to setup when i want to go for boost. |

400hp at the Fly is 300Kw, will come to between 200 to 225 RwKw. That is alot out of a NA SOHC.
If you are going boost, stay away from High Compression, recipe for disaster. What was the cam out of? An AU or E series? |

Yeah im understanding those figures lol Thats why i said id be happy with 350 hp. I know of guys getting that out of xflows with similar specs to mine but with a lot more cam and comp and reving the tits out of them so im pretty confident in my goals.
boost and high comp is a recipe that is best left alone yes but like i said im not aiming for that with this build, i might have a crack down the track if i get bored with this but for now it will be an NA screamer. Cam was in an EF GLi so will fit fine in this tickford head. I know its not the best cam for getting the numbers but cams swaps are a 20min job with these things so im not too worried about fitting up for now. And ive got the gears to tweak it a tad aswell so im not too worried at the present. |

This is what i could dig up on it.
http://www.crowcams.com.au/media/catalo ... 0EA-AU.pdf Its not a large cam by any means. Im hoping to retard it and stretch the power band up as high as i can. |

You won't get anywhere near 350hp with that cam......in old terms, thats a Towing cam.
I wouldn't go any more than 9.5:1 CR with that cam.....even then you may have to pull some ign timing out of it here n there.

Yeah thats was worrying me. Looking over the cam specs for 4.0L on a few different sites there doesnt seem to be a lot of difference from stock to full tilt, about 50-60thou lift and a few extra degrees duration, when compared to a cam from say a clevo for example they are pathetic in spec.

For 350 to 400hp, you will need a Speedway Cam.
