I got told that putting a ea cam into a ef/el engine will give a peformance boost and is still within the range for the stock ecu, there was a few other things you also swap over and i cant remeber. Would anyone beable to shed some light on this.

Unfortunately, the EA cam won't do anything for you. You're better off getting an EF/EL XR6 cam, head, fuel reg and ECU (if you don't want an aftermarket cam & J3 chip).

the story is that the ea mpfi cam had more lift over the other cams, some people swear by them but the way i see it if your pulling the cam out of the motor you may aswell make it worth your time and put a wade regrind cam of your choice in with an extra set of lifters, depends if you really want more power enough to fork out the extra few $$ for a proper cam

If you have the EA cam just laying around then chuck it in. I had one in my XG and while it didn't do anything for acceleration, it helped going up hills. Would maintain speed rather than having to drop back into 4th gear, but that's it unfortunately. Better off with a regrind like Bry said.

around the $200 mark for the cam. and like $5 from the wreckers for a extra set of shims
