Hi folks. I want to buy one of these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Inner-Tie-Ro ... 5d421e898e

But I am not sure how to use it. I know the tool slides over the rack end, but I am not sure how to use the "jaws".

Does anybody have one of these that can give me a quick lesson? 8-)

How many times will you use it ??

For $20 for a new set of inner tierods, plus what you have left from the $52, get yourself a decent set of vice grips - which will get more use.

You can use vice grips to undo and do up the rack ends - when done up, dress the marks off with a file, wash off with metho or similar. Be careful on the drivers side, as the rack is exposed and covered in grease.

I will probably use it once or twice, but, against Pedders $230 for replacement of rods, PLUS allignement, total about $300, it's a bargain, and at least I will have it for life.

I think I have figured out how to use it anyway: put the crows foot over the flats on the rod, and slide the "spanner" part up over it into the flats on the spanner

By the looks of it, you select the adapter that fits the rack end, then slide the tool over, fit 2 retaining screws for the adapter, then proceded to undo the rack end.
You'll still need a wheel alignment after doing the rack ends anyway.......because you have to take the tie rod ends off to use it.

Wheel alignment is a mandatory. Depends too if you're doing them with the rack in situ - the orientation of the flats will determine if you have room to move, hence vice grips - sounds butcherous, but they do work.
And again, new items for $20 + post from Ebay Suzukisuper would be a good idea. The balls in the existing ones will most likely be a tad loose.

Never sure which is better: a $40 item from Repco, or a $20 from somewhere else :?

You get what you pay for????

Depends who the supplier is - I've bought steering rack seal kits from them @ $45 and be quoted the same kit (same manufacturer) locally here @ $80.
I've bought a fair bit from them over the years, TBH I've found their gear pretty good. I deal with them personally, and have found them very good.
