Hi, just a quick question, does anyone know the part numbers for the 82 and 88 degree genuine ford thermostats? Cheers :)

The ONLY thermostat they used for EA-EL was ART 92 G.
In AU's they used AUC 8575 A and I think they are 90 deg.

The ART 82 G and ART 89 G are listed for the old XR on to XF.

Ohkay, so can you still get them off ford? And will they fit the EL? Ive read heaps about people putting in 82 and 89 degree thermostats to get them running cooler.. and i would like to do the same to mine as ive just done a headgasket.
Thanks for the reply,

Hi,

You should use the correct thermostat for your car. A cooler one wont let the engine run at the right temperature, which will lead to more wear and fuel usage. ( and emissions ) Most people use a cooler thermostat to hide other problems. Fix the cause of a problem, not the symptoms.

you go to a spare parts store and ask them for a thermostat to suit your car but tell them you want one with a cooler opening temp.

the factory one is 91 deg c, I wouldn't go any lower than a 87 deg c,

Also, the proper t'stat for EA to EL has a spring loaded plate that seats on top of the bypass pipe for the heater......the older type t'stats do not.
If the t'stat doesn't have a small hole in it, drill one ( about 2.5 to 3mm ), this stops heat shock at the radiator.
