Hey guys, after some help. I have an EL falcon (suspected au/el hybrid-98 model with silver rocker cover) with a busted trans that needs replacing. I have a freshly rebuilt trans from an EF here. I noticed the codes on the side of the transmissions are different. Will this be a straight swap over or are these boxes different?

Code on the side of the EF box: 94-DA-7000-BA

Code on the side of the EL box: 96-DA-7000-AC

Any help would be great - Need to get the car back on the road!

the codes are just date casting numbers, 94da means it was cast in 1994 and 96da was cast in 1996.

otherwise mechanically and electronically the same box...

Ah makes sense. Will I need to swap anything else over i.e. bell housing/starter motor/plug?

it will bolt straight in and work fine, keep the converter with the box though, added bonus is you'll get a dipstick, Shouldn't have any problems.

No probs. Main reason I ask is the the EL is a hybrid (with the AU motor). I'm guessing that would mean that it has an AU trans? Just wanted to make sure they're interchangeable (EF-EL-AU)

IIRC, the EL's had some different solenoids in them....the size of the hole where the oil goes through...then the AU's were different again.....like an upgrade, really.

Series I EF had a dipstick, Series II did not.

EL Motor is not an AU Motor, it is a mixture of E and AU. AU Style Rockers and cam, Larger main bearings, different oil oickup on the oil pump etc.

EL hybris has a EL Auto 93LE, AUI is a 93LE same as the EF/EL, seiesII/III is a 97LE.

AU box can be fitted to an series with no issues.

You only need to swap the bell housing to use AU auto on an E-series block.
