Hi all,
When I got my BA turbo the guy told me that the extension housing bush is crap and needs replacing. Under boost at between 60 and 80 it develops a shudder that goes away when you take your foot off the accelerator, which seems to support that conclusion. So, I bought a bush and seal and put them in my spare housing ready go to. Just took the one out of the BAXR6T and discovered that the output shaft has a fair bit of slop.. you can move it around about 1.5 mm in all directions. I have two old BTR's here and both of them have slop the same way.. is it normal or do I need to pull the box and replace the bearing? (or better yet, convert to ZF of best of all.. T56.) I was hoping to get this working well enough for a year or so, so that I can get my ducks in a row and convert to a manual. Can a BTR guru provide me some guidance? ta frank |

Well, the shuddering has stopped.. so I guess it was the bush.. but I still don't know if that output shaft is too lose.. guess I'm gonna start saving for a T56.
The EL extension housing fit nicely... I did have to drill a hole in the fillet the rear mount fit, but that was easy and fast. (that mount only seems to do the exhaust rubber anyway.) I took a photo side by side that I will put up later just in case someone else is looking in future. |
